connection, and

lasting change

You’re in the Right Place If…

You’ve been trying to support your child in every way you know how—and still, something isn’t clicking.

You’ve tried routines, expectations, and different strategies at home—yet things still feel harder than they should.

Your child may be:

• Easily overwhelmed or shutting down when things feel too hard

• Becoming reactive, argumentative, or emotionally escalated

• Struggling socially or feeling misunderstood

• Wanting connection—but not knowing how to navigate it

• Able to explain what to do—but not apply skills in the moment

And you may find yourself:

• Walking on eggshells or bracing for the next reaction

• Second-guessing how to respond in the moment

• Wondering why what “should” work… isn’t working

At Anchor Path, we work with families who are deeply invested—not because they haven’t tried, but because what they’ve tried hasn’t fully worked.

A Different Way to Understand Behavior

Not all behavior is about defiance, lack of motivation, or unwillingness to listen.

Often, it reflects something deeper.

What looks like “noncompliance” may actually reflect:

• Competing demands that exceed the child’s current capacity to respond

• A history of reinforcement for escape or avoidance in similar situations

• Difficulty applying learned skills under conditions of stress or emotional arousal

• Rigid patterns of responding that have become well-established over time

In many cases, your child isn’t refusing—

they’re responding in the most effective way they currently know how.

Even when children have the skills, they may not be able to use them in the moment.

At Anchor Path, we look beyond surface behavior to understand what’s driving behavior, how your child is experiencing the situation, and what’s getting in the way of flexible responding.

Because when you understand the why, your response becomes more effective—and change becomes possible.

Our Approach

At Anchor Path, our work is grounded in behavior analysis and expanded through acceptance-based approaches to support meaningful, lasting change.

We follow a structured process that focuses on:

1. Understanding what’s driving behavior

2. Teaching practical, usable skills

3. Supporting real-life application across settings

Understand

We begin by looking beyond surface behavior to understand:

        •        The conditions under which behavior occurs

        •        The function behavior is serving

        •        Patterns that have developed over time

        •        How your child is responding to internal and external demands

Build

We use Behavioral Skills Training to teach skills in a way that is structured, practical, and immediately applicable.

This includes:

• Explaining and modeling skills

• Practicing in-session

• Providing feedback and refinement

Skills may include:

• Emotional awareness and regulation

• Flexible thinking and problem-solving

• Communication and social understanding

• Planning, organization, and follow-through

• Staying present and engaged—even when situations feel difficult

Apply

Skills are not just practiced in session—they are applied in real-world settings.

We support:

• Use of skills at home, school, and in the community

• Responding effectively under real-life conditions

• Generalizing across people, environments, and situations

Because skills that aren’t used outside of session don’t create lasting change.

We’re not just focused on reducing behavior—we’re focused on building the flexibility, skills, and understanding needed for long-term success.

Who We Help

We specialize in working with children, teens, and young adults who are capable—but struggling to apply their skills in real-life situations.

Many of the individuals we work with:

• Are verbally capable and able to understand expectations

• Have diagnoses such as high-functioning autism or ADHD

• Can explain what to do—but struggle to follow through in the moment

They often:

• Feel overwhelmed when demands increase

• Experience frustration, confusion, or emotional shutdown

• Feel misunderstood or out of place socially

• Want connection—but don’t know how to navigate it

• Move between wanting to engage and wanting to withdraw

This may look like:

• Avoidance or escape from tasks or expectations

• Emotional outbursts or reactivity

• Shutting down or disengaging

• Difficulty with flexibility or transitions

• Social challenges or peer conflict

These are not individuals who lack ability.

They are individuals who are struggling to apply what they know in moments that require flexibility, emotional regulation, and real-time decision-making.

Direct Support

We work directly with children, teens, and young adults to help them apply skills in real-life situations—especially when things feel overwhelming or difficult to navigate.

Services may take place in:

• Home

• School

• Community settings

• Virtual sessions

All services are individualized, with common areas of focus including:

• Emotional regulation in real-time situations

• Communication and functional language use

• Social understanding and relationship-building

• Flexibility when expectations or routines change

• Reducing avoidance and escape-based responding

We also support the development of:

• Flexible thinking and problem-solving

• Planning, organization, and follow-through

• Increased awareness of thoughts, emotions, and internal experiences

• The ability to stay present and engaged—even when situations feel difficult

Sessions are structured, but flexible—allowing for both skill development and real-time application.

Our goal is not just for your child to learn new skills—but to be able to use them when it matters most.

Assessments

Our assessments are designed to go beyond identifying behavior—they help us understand what’s driving it and how to move forward in a meaningful, individualized way.

We use a combination of methods to evaluate:

• Behavioral patterns and function

• Language and learning processes

• Emotional regulation

• Flexibility in thinking and responding

This allows us to develop a more complete understanding of your child—not just what they do, but how they experience and respond to the world around them.

Through this process, we are able to:

• Identify what is maintaining challenging behavior

• Understand where skills are breaking down

• Clarify what supports are actually needed

• Build a targeted, practical, and relevant treatment plan

The goal is not just to gather information—but to use it to guide meaningful, lasting change.
